Nisa stores hit by shortages following logistics IT failure | New
Nisa stores have been hit by a severe shortage of refrigerated and short-lived products this week following an IT failure at logistics giant Culina.
A communication leak from Nisa to retailers suggested the issue had been resolved but uptime was still affected as it had created a “significant backlog” in orders, with efforts to resolve it being hampered by a shortage of drivers and staff. vehicles.
The problems have impacted the supply of products to dozens of top brands, including Alpro, Danone, General Mills, Innocent, Müller and Walkers Snacks.
Nisa retailers complained that deliveries were well below the quantities ordered.
Hemel Hempstead-based Nisa retailer Kishor Patel tweeted earlier today that the shortages were “not good for business”, with 80 cases missing on delivery this morning.
He said some of the items were “crucial,” meaning he would have to use competing cash & carry deposits such as Booker or Bestway to source them.
“It doesn’t look good from the customer’s point of view,” he told The Grocer. “I always manage my stores with maximum availability.
“The refrigerated delivery arrived this morning, and I have to place another order before noon today for Monday, so I’ll have to predict what to do, whether or not bags of salad or coleslaw will arrive.”
Another retailer said 15-20% of its refrigerated lines are missing.
He said: “Fortunately it was not critical things, but since it was the first hot weekend and the first holidays it was not ideal.
“I know a lot of people may not have been hit on Saturday and Sunday, but were hit on Monday morning, which means resupply is way behind. And given the shortage of drivers, that only compounds the problems.
“If that means we have to beg and borrow, switch to cash & carry, adjust the lineup or change things, then that’s what we’re going to do.”
Nisa’s memo to retailers said, “Due to issues with the systems at one of our supplier’s distributors, there has been a significant risk of partner in-store deliveries since last week to a number of refrigeration suppliers.
“We can confirm that most of the system issues have been resolved. Unfortunately, this event resulted in a large backlog of orders in the market and a shortage of drivers / vehicles to meet the demand in full. Once we are able to confirm when service will resume at full capacity, we will ensure that this is communicated. In the meantime, unfortunately expect the service to be affected.
A spokesperson for Nisa said: “We are delighted that the issue has been resolved, resulting in delays in the supply of a number of ambient and refrigerated products over the past weekend and early. from this week.
“Our suppliers are working closely with Nisa and Culina to eliminate the backlog, with more normal availability levels expected for the end of the week.”
Culina did not comment.
