Shin Megami Tensei V sales exceed 800,000 copies worldwide since launch
We already knew that Shin Megami Tensei V (CMS5) had a great launch globally, but we finally have a concrete number to associate with these worldwide sales. Atlus revealed in a New Years message to Famitsu that Shin Megami Tensei V has sold 800,000 copies since its launch in November, which makes Atlus and Sega happy. Additionally, Atlus plans to announce a new game this year, and while it’s not specific, it could be Persona 6 or Studio Zero’s Re Fantasy Project, the latest of which is made by some of the creative leaders of Persona 5.
Previously, we had received various sales reports on the successful launch of Shin Megami Tensei V in various regions. In the UK, physical launch sales of CMS5 vastly surpassed those of other RPGs released in 2021, such as Courageously Default II and Tales of the Ascension. In Japan, the game destroyed the competition in its early days, selling 143,247 units according to Famitsu trackers. And in the USA, CMS5 had (to anyone’s surprise) the best launch sales of any game in the CMS franchise, even without considering the game’s digital sales.
So, Shin Megami Tensei V Sales of over 800,000 units worldwide on Nintendo Switch are hopefully just the start of the game’s financial accolades. If the game ever came to PC as Courageously Default II did so, we could expect another sales spike.
